Ashiq Masood, MD, is an assistant professor and director of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology at Rush Medical College. He was a part of a research team that led to the discovery that transposons (jumping genes) can initiate colorectal cancer. Masood is trained in cancer genomics (precision oncology) and computational biology. He was previously an assistant professor of medicine, Division of Oncology at the Washington University School of Medicine/Siteman Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City/Saint Luke’s Cancer Institute. He specializes in treating gastrointestinal cancers.
Masood has published in high impact peer-reviewed journals, such as BioMed Central’s Molecular Cancer, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Communications, Genome Research and the American Association for Cancer Research’s Molecular Cancer Therapeutics. Additionally, he is an associate editor for BMC Cancer. He is also a reviewer for various top medical journals and serves as mentor for medical students, residents and fellows. Masood believes in compassionate care of patients. His goal is to develop innovative clinical trials.
