Alana Kirby, MD PhD received her medical degree and PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Michigan, completed neurology residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and her fellowship in Movement Disorders here at Rush University Medical Center. She also completed a research fellowship studying mechanisms of gait in the laboratory of Dr. Veronique VanderHorst. She specializes in movement disorders neurology, with a particular interest in cognition, mood and gait in neurodegenerative disease. These interests reflect her research endeavors wherein she uses cutting edge techniques in animal models to investigate the neurophysiology of gait and motivation and what goes wrong in Parkinson’s disease. She is active in local, national and international organizations, particularly the Chicago Society for Neuroscience and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society.
