The RUSH University Internal Medicine Residency is committed to providing outstanding training in an educational environment that fosters clinical and academic excellence. Team environment
At RUSH our residents are part of a bigger team that provides excellent patient care. Our nursing staff is nationally recognized as a five-time winner of the prestigious Magnet award. Our institution has long been known for a focus on patient safety and was ranked number two in the country by Vizient in this category. RUSH was also selected to the 2021-22 US News and World Report Honor Roll for the second year in a row. Our team is further strengthened by an outstanding faculty that promotes learning in an environment of mutual respect. Our residents contribute greatly to this environment as well and are known for their equally high standards for patient care and safety. They consistently embody a wonderful spirit of collaboration and teamwork amongst themselves and with other members of the healthcare team.
Preparing for career success
Our goal is not only to provide a rich educational environment that provides our trainees with a variety of options to enhance their core training, but also to prepare some graduates for future leadership roles in clinical medicine, education and research. We currently offer a health equity track, a medical education track and a track in patient safety and quality improvement. Additionally, we support resident academic skills through our Residents as Scholars and Residents as Teachers curricula. These programs are designed to develop skill sets needed to continue an academic career, a pathway that many of our graduates choose.
Creating a professional home
Residency is fulfilling and fun, and you will no doubt have great memories from this period of your training. It also has its challenges and obstacles that can be difficult to navigate without help. In our program, when it comes to managing the residency, we organize our approach around two key concepts: hospitality and ease of use. We want you to feel comfortable and at home here, and when administrative or professional challenges arise, we will be available to help you figure it out. We have the highest expectations of our program coordinators, our Chief Residents and our program directors to be both supportive and responsive.
