Academics and Research

Clinical training

In the nephrology fellowship, you’ll build skills through active participation on the following rotations:

  • Inpatient nephrology consult service
  • Inpatient nephrology transplant service
  • Renal pathology
  • Pediatric nephrology
  • Interventional nephrology

You’ll also attend outpatient general nephrology and transplant continuity clinics, rotations in the outpatient hemodialysis unit, peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis clinics, and stone clinic, all located within a quarter-mile of Rush University Medical Center.

Research

Rush has been the epicenter for the Collaborative Study Group, or CSG, one of the world’s premier clinical nephrology research organizations. CSG studies continue to define the standard of care for lupus nephritis and diabetic nephropathy.

CSG activity and data offer fellows abundant opportunities for clinical research projects. Investigators like Jochen Reiser, MD, PhD, and others are pursuing groundbreaking molecular and clinical research that is already translating into better care for patients today.
