Nursing Science (PhD)

The PhD in Nursing Science program prepares you to be a clinical researcher who advances the nursing care of individuals and communities through scientific discovery.

Students in the PhD in Nursing Science program will:

  • Integrate knowledge from biological, behavioral and clinical sciences
  • Perform clinical research that contributes to the scientific basis of care provided to individuals across the lifespan and in any setting where care is provided
  • Gain the leadership skills necessary to serve as a senior academician and influence health care systems and policy
  • Develop and submit manuscripts for publication
A three-year accelerated plan of study is available to qualified students who reside in the Chicagoland area.  Accelerated nursing science students are given full tuition support and a stipend for a total of three years.  View additional pre- and post-enrollment scholarship awards and funding.

A terminal graduate degree in nursing meets the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation requirement to qualify as faculty in a college of nursing in Illinois.
