Welcome to Rush University Medical Center for the coming academic year!

The Office of Graduate Medical Education is here to assist you in making your transition to Rush easier. We will cover many items at orientation, but some things have been placed in MedHub (Rush's web-based Residency Management System) to be reviewed and/or completed prior to orientation to make the process faster and easier.

Your individual programs will be in touch with you regarding any programmatic orientation dates and/or activities specific to your department. Some programs require house officers to report to Rush prior to the GME orientation; others afterwards. Keep in touch with your program coordinator for details about this. You may not begin your program until you have attended a mandatory GME orientation.

Please review the following items very thoroughly.

Do you have your NPI number yet? If not, please go to the National Plan And Provider Enumeration System's Web site and apply for this free number which you will need for the rest of your professional life. On the application, please note you are not the sole proprietor. GME will need to know your number.

Should you require a U.S. work visa, you will either be contacted by a Rush University Medical Center representative or one of Rush’s legal immigration attorneys at Vedder Price at the start of the process.  If you have any questions, please contact Shanda L. Coleman at or 312-942-5216.

Please ensure your program coordinator knows your current e-mail address and Chicago address as soon as you get local housing. If any other information changes, please e-mail your program coordinator.

Information concerning your health benefits will be forthcoming with instructions on how to sign –up. To review current year benefits please visit the 2014-2015 Housestaff Agreement and the Quick Reference Sheet on the GME website.

We are so glad you will be joining us at Rush and we look forward to welcoming you. If you have any questions about the process, or if I can help you with anything, please do not hesitate to contact me or any member of the GME staff.

Thank you for your cooperation in getting these important tasks done ASAP!
