The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation offers a wide variety of educational opportunities throughout training. The rotations are purposefully equally balanced between Outpatient / Inpatient and Neurorehabilitation / MSK. In addition, we have maximized the number of electives to allow PGY3 residents to complete Audition Electives in pursuit of a fellowship and PGY4s to round out their education as they prepare for their unique post-residency careers.
Inpatient Calls have been spreadout throughout residency to limit burnout and promote wellness amongst the residents. We have found that having our senior residents complete call not only reduced the burdon for the junior resident but also provides them with an opportunity to teach back to the Junior residents on ways they could improve their patient care, reduce overnight pages, etc.

Call Schedule
Details:
- Residents are required to take inpatient call at Rush Rehabilitation throughout residency with decreasing requirement as they become senior residents. All of the calls are organized to the time when they are on the inpatient rotation itself
- During the weekday, residents share responsibility of taking “Home Call” answering pages from home but never have to come into the hospital from home
- On the weekend, residents provide 24 hour “In House” call on Saturday and 12 hour call on Sunday (Internal Medicine Moonlighter provides “In House” Call on Sunday Overnight). The Saturday and Sunday calls are spaced in accordance to ACGME rule and our departmental wellness policies
Wellness: In the interest of our department Wellness Initiatives, the department has not only followed ACGME rules with duty hours but has also spread out the call to avoid having any issues with wellness. Residents who take overnight “Home Call” do not typically taken overnight “Home Call” for at least another 24 hours
