Section of Forensic Psychiatry

About the Section

Forensic psychiatry is a subspecialty of psychiatry that sits at the crossroads of mental health and the law. The interface of psychiatric-legal issues is far-reaching and includes civil (tort), criminal or correctional matters that may require expert psychiatric input.

In addition to consultation, forensic experts play integral roles in educating and liaising with other legal professionals, government bodies, institutions and laypersons. This sub-specialty is recognized by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, which oversees fellowship training and board certification.

RUSH University Department of Psychiatry provides medical-legal services through its Section of Forensic Psychiatry and Board Certified Forensic Psychiatrists.
