Rush’s Department of Microbial Pathogens and Immunity is active in a unique blend of research, clinical care, and educational programs focused around immunology, virology, bacteriology, parasitology and clinical allergy and immunology in children and adults.

In addition to our physicians seeing patients with allergy and immunology problems at Rush University Medical Center, our faculty teach medical and graduate students and mentor postgraduate students and fellows. We offer basic coursework in immunology and microbiology along with weekly journal clubs and seminar series. Our students and fellows have gone on to highly successful careers in academia and industry.

Our leading-edge research focuses on translational laboratory programs in HIV immunology and virology, host pathogen interaction, microbiome studies and tumor immunology.
