Student Psychiatric Association

Mission

The Student Psychiatric Association (SPA) is a student-operated organization within Rush University. Our mission is to advance the field of mental health through educational and service opportunities for Rush University students, and to be a mental health resource at Rush University Medical Center. We aim to foster interprofessional communication and collaboration in order to improve the well-being of our community.

SPA Objectives

  1. Promote mental health awareness.
  2. Promote student interest in the field of Psychiatry.
  3. Provide educational opportunities for students interested in Psychiatry.
  4. Provide service opportunities for students interested in Psychiatry.
  5. Develop a formal mentoring program for graduate and doctorate students interested in Psychiatry.
  6. Foster interprofessional collaboration within the field of Psychiatry.

SPA Events

As an organization, SPA has previously hosted, and is interested in hosting events on the following topics: Mental Health First Aid, Risks/Benefits of Psychedelic Medicine, the role of the Psychiatric Liaison nurse, suicide awareness, student mental health wellness, “Spill the Tea” discussions, Valentines Day Cards for Kids, and Finals Day Relief DIY crafts.
