David L. Vines, PhD, MHS, RRT, FAARC, FCCP

David L. Vines, PhD, MHS, RRT, FAARC, FCCP, is an associate professor and the chairperson of the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences and the program director of the respiratory care program at Rush University. Vines is the founding program director and department chair for the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences. He initiated the only master’s in respiratory care program in Illinois. The program aims to integrate the clinical and research, and respiratory practice into training while also advancing respiratory care within Rush. Both the educational and hospital programs have been nationally recognized in multiple cycles of the Apex Awards organized by the American Association of Respiratory Care (AARC).

Vines has more than 25 years of experience as a respiratory therapist. He has received numerous teaching awards and was recognized as the 2013 Illinois Society for Respiratory Care Practitioner of the Year and 2016 AARC’s Education Specialty Practitioner of the Year. He is internationally recognized as a leader and pioneer in respiratory care. He serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the National Board for Respiratory Care. His areas of expertise include mechanical ventilation, cardiopulmonary monitoring, allocation of respiratory care and education.
