College of Nursing's Wilbur to Receive SAGE Award

JoEllen Wilbur, PhD, APN, FAAN, professor and Independence Foundation Chair in Nursing, will receive the 2016 SAGE Award at the 19th annual University of Illinois at Chicago College of Nursing Power of Nursing Leadership event on November 4. The event celebrates the impact and achievements of nurse leaders in Illinois and aims to enhance and engage partnerships among leaders in academia, government, health care delivery and health care services.

Wilbur was selected for her efforts in mentoring and supporting leadership of today while looking for ways to cultivate the nurse leaders of tomorrow. According to the UIC College of Nursing, a SAGE makes a Significant impact on the lives and careers of others, as an Advisor who influences and shapes the careers of others through sharing wisdom and experiences and offering opportunities and possibilities, as a Guide who helps others along their career paths toward leadership development, and as one who Enlightens by challenging others to grow and take risks as role models, facilitators and mentors.

Wilbur is also associate dean for research in the College of Nursing and has had a long research career in the area of women’s health, receiving grants and awards for her work.
