Rush University College of Nursing has received the 2016 Health Professions Higher Education Excellence in Diversity, or HEED, Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine for its outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.

As a recipient of the Health Professions HEED Award — a national honor recognizing U.S. medical, dental, pharmacy, osteopathic, nursing and allied health schools — the College of Nursing will be featured, along with 30 other recipients, in the December 2016 issue of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education.

“The College of Nursing is exceptionally honored to receive this national award recognizing our diversity efforts,” says Lisa Rosenberg, PhD, RN, associate dean of students. “We believe in sustaining a diverse and inclusive educational environment, as this is what will change the face of the nursing workforce and improve health outcomes for all people.”

Diversity and inclusion is a critical focus for the College of Nursing, spanning a range of efforts in recruitment and retention and dedicated financial need and merit scholarships for diverse and underrepresented nursing students.

“We take a holistic approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient,” says Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being accomplished every day across their campus.”
