Master of Science in Biotechnology Admissions & Deadlines

The Graduate College encourages diversity among our student population and seeks to admit persons from various backgrounds.

All applicants must have earned at least the equivalent of a U.S. bachelor’s degree. We strongly encourage students with a GPA of 3.0 or above to apply.

All academic majors are welcome to apply, but you should complete the following prerequisite course work:

  • Biology with laboratory
  • Chemistry
  • Organic chemistry with laboratory
  • College physics
  • Math (preferably calculus)

Complete the following steps to apply to the Master of Science in biotechnology program:

    You will also need the following ready to submit through the Rush Application:

    1. Statement of purpose for joining this program. Please include your specific strengths and accomplishments in academia, research, service and leadership.
    2. Resume or curriculum vitae.
    3. Three letters of recommendation: one from a professional source and two from academic sources. 

    Submit official transcripts from every higher education school attended. Official transcripts must be emailed directly to the Graduate College by each school, or sealed and mailed by each school to the following address:

    Send official GRE scores (from within the past five years) to Rush using school code 1676. We also accept MCAT, GMAT, PCAT and DAT scores in lieu of the GRE.

    International students (those with a degree from outside the U.S.) must also submit the following:

    • Official Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores. Send scores to Rush using school code 1676. We will waive the TOEFL requirement if you completed your degree in a country where the official language is English. We do not accept International English Language Testing System scores.
    • Official course-by-course evaluation from an Educational Credential Evaluators, or ECE. Send international transcripts to ECE for evaluation, and they can email the formal evaluation directly to Rush. We do not accept evaluations from World Education Services.

    Tuition, fees and aid

     

    We have a limited number of scholarships for the program, including academic and diversity-based scholarships. You will automatically be considered for these scholarships if you apply by the priority deadline.

    Rush offers financial aid and scholarships to qualified applicants.
