Rose Milano, DNP, ACNP-BC, is an advanced practice, acute care nurse practitioner originally from the Chicagoland area. Her nursing career spans over three decades of clinical practice in three different states. She spent the first 10 years of her career sharpening her nursing skill set as a bedside nurse in the acute/critical care and emergency department specialties. She then obtained her MS from Northern Illinois University School of Nursing and began a 10 year journey working as a clinical nurse specialist, as well as a trauma coordinator. Her next career challenge was attending Rush University School of Nursing to obtain her post-master’s acute care nurse practitioner certificate, which allowed her to re-focus yet to continue her passion in caring for the critically injured adult trauma patient. She has had the honor of working as a trauma nurse practitioner alongside some of the ‘pioneers’ in traumatology at some of the best Level 1 trauma centers in the country, including Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Advocate Christ Medical Center, University of Iowa, Oregon Health & Science University and currently at the University of Chicago. She completed her terminal degree, the coctor of nursing practice, at Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, sits on the editorial board of The Journal Of Trauma Nursing and is a submission reviewer for the Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
After attending the Harvard School of Medicine Comprehensive Simulation Course in 2016, she developed an interest in the use of simulation in educating providers. Her career also includes an extensive record educating locally as well as nationally on a variety of issues revolving around the care of the adult trauma patient. Milano re-located back to the Chicagoland area recently in order to join the faculty at Rush University School of Nursing as a full time assistant professor in the adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner program.
