Dr. Hamilton received her PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and did a Post-doctoral fellowship in genetics at the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing. Her research has focused on young adults who choose to have genetic tests for adult-onset diseases. Additionally, Hamilton has completed grounded theory studies with individuals who have tested for the BRCA mutation associated with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer or the mutation associated with Huntington disease.
As the Assistant Dean of the Generalist Masters (2015-2019), her research focused on outcome studies in health care settings where the role of the Clinical Nurse Leader is operationalized and on describing how the CNL is being used in a variety of health care settings.
Future research interests include family centered care in the ICU setting and the concept of “weathering” in African American women who experience complications in pregnancy.
Hamilton’s teaching has crossed the GEM, Post-licensure CNL, DNP and PhD programs and she hopes to continue teaching and mentoring students in her present role.
