Dr. Swartwout is a faculty member of the Family Nurse Practitioner program at Rush. She has been a practicing FNP for 30 years and has spent 20 of those years in adolescent/school-based health. Her current clinical practice is at the Evanston Township High School Health Center. She has spent almost her entire nursing career practicing in the primary care arena while concurrently teaching both pre-licensure and graduate students.
She has a depth of experience serving underserved populations, managing grant- funded primary care practices and working closely with communities and public health issues. She has a keen understanding of the need to align FNP education with changing healthcare policy.
Currently she is working on a research project to validate and evaluate a care coordination model for Medicaid managed care patients. She has provided operational consultation to numerous school-based health centers. She is currently a member of the Faculty Development Committee.
