Alexandra Vardouniotis, MS, MLS(ASCP)CM SBBCM, earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rush. An instructor in the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, she teaches many of the courses in the specialist in blood bank technology certificate program. She is also the lead medical laboratory scientist in the molecular oncology lab. Her research interests include molecular blood banking, blood management, transfusion safety, advancements in the molecular oncology testing and treatment of colon and lung cancers and the implementation of next generation sequencing in the molecular oncology laboratory. Vardouniotis won the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) Illinois Member of the Year Award in 2010 and the ASCLS-IL Key to the Future Award in 2011. She was also recognized as an outstanding faculty member by Rush in 2015.
