Simulation and Procedural Bootcamp for Emergency Medical Clinicians

Two Bootcamps Available.
One to fit your busy schedule.

June 29-July 1, 2020

August 17-19, 2020

Simulation Center Bootcamp CollageInstructor: Dr. Michelle Sergel

The Emergency Medicine Bootcamp course teaches practitioners in emergency medicine critical skills for the emergency-care environment. The two and a half day course demonstrates and allows clinicians to practice procedures that are most commonly performed in the emergency department.  Participants are then able to demonstrate the implementation of these skills into simulated cases using high-fidelity simulation.

Course Objectives

To gain confidence in principles of adult and pediatric resuscitation and common emergency patient presentations while applying life-saving and common procedures seen in emergency medicine:

  • Inserting a central venous catheter and securing intravenous access
  • Difficult airway adjuncts: video laryngoscopy, intubating LMA, and cricothyrotomy
  • Pediatric IO line placement and neonatal and pediatric resuscitation algorithms
  • Application of adult resuscitation algorithms
  • Thoracostomy procedures: chest tube (CT) and percutaneous CT insertion
  • Delivery of the precipitous labor and the most common complications
  • Transvenous Pacemakers for symptomatic bradycardia

Course Overview

Participants work hands-on with the most current simulation technologies for two and a half days, rotating in small groups through numerous modules that are organized into four topics: Airway, Cardiovascular, Pediatric and Obstetric.

The faculty-to-participant ratio ensures participants get the personalized instruction and practice time they need to feel confident performing the rare critical care skills.

Here’s What Your Colleagues Had To Say

  • “Thank you for the phenomenal procedure course yesterday. Several of my RMDs commented that it was the best simulation course they had ever attended.”
  • Thanks for the great experience and for making it the most fun I have ever had with medical education thanks to your animated theatrics. I don’t have words to express the value of the “safe” atmosphere that you created.”
  • “I attended a Sim lab skills 3-day experience with Michelle Sergel MD. I felt I needed sharpening of my procedural skills, since working in a community hospital, there are not enough opportunities in patient care to stay as competent as I feel necessary. The Sim lab was an excellent experience and allowed me to gain the expertise I was looking for and to feel upgraded so to speak. The Sim lab experience is very useful and I think plays a vital role in ED training. It is difficult to find such a course that offers this close and team-oriented approach. My hope is this can be continued in the future so we can stay competent as ED physicians and continue to be a vital force.”
  • “I just wanted to take a moment to thank you for the fabulous course you put on.  It was probably the most vibrant procedure course I have encountered.  It sure beat the old-fashioned on-the-job-training I received years ago.  This course was probably the best CME I have take in 7 or 8 years.  I appreciated your teaching style and your intuition regarding when to cover material deeply and when to hit the highlight reel.  The contents of the course was well-received by ever Provider who attended.”
