Admissions Information

Admission to the vascular ultrasound program requires a minimum of 60 semester or 90 quarter hours earned at an accredited college. The recommended minimum GPA is 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.

You may qualify for advanced placement in the vascular ultrasound program if you have earned the RVT (Registered Vascular Technologist) credential or have passed the SPI (Sonography Principles and Instrumentation) exam through the ARDMS(American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers)

The full-time, vascular ultrasound program consists of seven-quarters during 21 months. The first year has nine months (three academic quarters) of classroom and student laboratory experience. Senior year is one year of experience (four academic quarters) working with registered vascular technologists in a clinical setting. Clinical sites include university hospitals in Chicago, community hospital laboratories in the Chicago area and out-of-state sites.

Job Outlook for Vascular Sonographers

There are great job opportunities for vascular sonographers after graduation. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, employment for diagnostic medical sonographers is expected to grow much faster than the average of all occupations through 2020.
