Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need to apply?

  • Completion and submission of the online application, statement of purpose, and resume.
              In a maximum of 500 words, address (A) any past activities, work
              and/or research experience that influenced your decision to enter
              your intended field of study, (B) the path you took to prepare, both
              academically and personally, for a career in health care and (C) your
              career goals and how a Rush University degree can be instrumental
              to achieving them.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges attended - applicants must show proof of completion of a Bachelor's degree or show progress toward completing a degree.  All majors accepted, but classes in the basic sciences are necessary including Biology, Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry (all with labs) as well as College Physics and College Math (calculus preferred)
  • 3 letters of recommendation (academic sources preferred) 
  • GRE or other relevant test examinations (e.g., MCAT, DAT, and GMAT) 
  • All candidates will be interviewed
  • International applicants (applicants who have pursued a degree from outside of the U.S. must also submit an ECE course by course evaluation of their transcripts - we do not accept WES evaluations
  • International applicants whose native language is not English must also submit official TOEFL scores - we do not accept IELTS
What areas will be considered on my application?
  • All parts of the application are reviewed to determine admission
  • Students with gpa's above a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale are strongly encouraged to apply
  • There is no minimum score needed on the GRE
  • Statements of purpose should include an explanation of your undergraduate gpa if necessary and also reasons why this program will help you reach your academic/professional goals
  • Prerequisite classes include Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry (all with labs) and College Physics and College Math (calculus preferred).  If you have questions on your prerequisites, please contact the program director Dr. Gabriella Cs-Szabo at

What is the application deadline?

  • March 1st is the priority deadline for best consideration.  There are only 32 spots in the program, so we highly recommend applying as early as possible.  
  • Final deadline is May 1st; however, all spots in the program may be full by then.
When do biotechnology program classes start?
  • The only term of entry is in the Fall semester, which begins first week in September.

How Do I Submit the rest of my application materials?

After submitting the online applicaiton, statement of purpose, and resume:
