The Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc® (AAHRPP) awarded Rush full accreditation with distinction in Community Programs on June 7, 2012. This accreditation validates all of the important human subject research that is done by the Rush research community.
The achievement of full accreditation is a culmination of over six years of work by the Rush research community to align with the Rush mission to assure our “research endeavors, [and] community service programs … are dedicated to enhancing excellence in patient care for the diverse communities of the Chicago area now and in the future.”
The Rush commitment to excellence and to national best practices in human subject research is now validated through this AAHRPP accreditation.
This accreditation was possible through the collaboration of everyone in the entire Rush research community. Faculty and staff dedicated time and effort to building additional modules to the Rush Research Portal (RRP), served as members of multiple steering committees and work groups; and finally, over 100 faculty and staff participated in the AAHRPP site visit interviews.
The AAHRPP peer reviewers commented in the exit interview that the respect and collaboration between research administration and the research community was apparent and the integration of the RRP into the research infrastructure at Rush was unique and the something other institutions hope to achieve. The site visitors were also greatly impressed with Rush's community-based participatory research and determined that our community research met the standards with distinction.
Thank you very much for your involvement and support of this endeavor. Please share this accomplishment with all your sponsors and funding agencies. Use the AAHRPP symbol on any of your correspondence that is research related or that you deem appropriate (contact Tony DeMarco at 2-5097 for access). You will be hearing from us in the very near future to formally celebrate this great accomplishment. We also look forward to working together as we continue to improve our human subject research processes so we can maintain this great distinction for Rush.
