In order to further our efforts to recruit and retain a more diverse student body, specifically, more racial and ethnic minority students who are underrepresented in the health professions, Rush is pleased to announce the availability of competitive scholarships that will be awarded to full-time, matriculating students who will contribute to the diversity of Rush University.
"Underrepresented in the health professions" refers to racial and ethnic populations that are underrepresented relative to their numbers in the general population. Studies have documented the role of health professions diversity in: increasing access for underserved populations, increasing patient satisfaction, broadening the scope of the research agenda and ensuring culturally competent care. Recruiting a diverse student body and providing financial aid support will build a community of students from which we can and will select our faculty and staff. A diverse group of trainees will advance the education of all students and help us meet our vision of service to a diverse population of patients.
Approximately fourteen (14) Diversity Scholarship Awards will be awarded annually, each in varying amounts. Nominees are matriculating students entering a program in one of the Rush colleges. All awardees must be a permanent resident or citizen of the U.S. The number of recipients is determined after all applications have been received. Selection is based on academic excellence, experience in working in a multicultural environment, volunteerism in community service, leadership experience and a commitment to improve health and healthcare in medically underserved or economically disadvantaged communities and populations.
The Rush University Diversity Scholarship Award Program not only encourages diversity in the health professions and the elimination of healthcare disparities, but also rewards outstanding academic achievement, leadership activities and community involvement.
With the start of the 2012 - 13 academic year, Rush University will begin to award competitive scholarships in varying amounts for students who meet Rush’s criteria to promote diversity. Scholarships will be available to full time students who matriculate into one of Rush’s four colleges: Medical, Nursing, Health Sciences and Graduate. These scholarships demonstrate the commitment of Rush University to our strategic goal embracing diversity and inclusion in graduate and healthcare education.
These scholarships are merit-based and will be awarded without regard to financial need. Please note that many other grants and scholarships are available on the basis of financial need. All students are strongly encouraged to apply for need-based assistance through Rush University’s Office of Student Financial Aid at (312) 942-6256 or
