Clinical ExperiencesThe sole consideration in developing the Rush University Medical Center/Cook County Hospital Integrated Surgical Residency was to provide the best possible educational experience for our resident trainees. Residents rotate at Rush University Medical Center, John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, and North Shore Skokie Hospital. The character, resources, and patient populations at these three hospitals are varied and extensive offering a unique opportunity for in-depth, broad-based training in all of the primary and secondary components of surgery. ConferencesThe academic curriculum of the program was recently revised and offers residents an excellent foundation for a thorough understanding of surgical topics. Major teaching conferences are shared among the institutions in addition to conferences that are specific and unique to each institution. ResearchThe program has a strong commitment to basic science, clinical and educational research. All residents are expected to participate in a basic science or clinical research project and are encouraged to present and publish their results in a recognized forum. Those residents interested in an academic career are provided the opportunity to spend at least one year in a basic science laboratory. A longer research experience is available for those who desire it, and some residents have even obtained advanced degrees. Read more about the general surgery program's research. |
