Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship

RUSH Orthopedic Spine Surgery Fellowship is a one-year, ACGME-accredited program providing comprehensive training in the surgical and conservative treatment of a wide range of spinal disorders. Our fellowship has maintained a tradition of excellence in the training and education of hundreds of fellows to be world-class physicians, educators and researchers. Guided by accomplished faculty, you'll benefit from close collaboration with surgical attending physicians during the entire year. Fellows have the opportunity to travel and attend spine symposiums, labs, local and global meetings. Our program offers increasing responsibility and opportunity as skills are mastered. You'll gain expertise in simple and complex spinal problems and will be able to formulate a differential diagnosis for painful spinal surgery. You'll evaluate patients, interpret diagnostic tests, administer conscious sedation, and provide non-operative and operative treatment of traumatic, congenital, metabolic, neoplastic, neurologic, developmental and degenerative disorders of the skeletal system.

You'll spend time in various settings including RUSH, Midwest Orthopaedics at RUSH (additional settings here and here) and nearby Shriners Hospitals for Children.

You will participate in two or more clinical or basic science research projects, attend weekly lectures, and participate in conferences and journal clubs. You'll also learn the operational and practical considerations in how to operate and manage a spinal surgery practice.

How to apply

Applicants must have completed an accredited orthopaedic surgery residency and be at the PGY-6 level of training. (View ACGME program requirements.) Our fellowship participates in the SF Match Program.
