The pulmonary and critical care medicine fellowship is a fully accredited, three-year program providing comprehensive clinical training and extensive research opportunities. You'll work closely with faculty in a collegial and supportive training atmosphere. Graduates include distinguished clinicians, educators and scientists working in dynamic careers throughout the world.

RUSH University Medical Center is a major referral center for adult solid organ and stem cell/bone marrow transplants, as well as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation.

Upon completion, you will be eligible for board certification in pulmonary disease and in critical care medicine. Single-specialty training is not available.

How to apply

Candidates must have successfully completed an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited internal medicine residency training program prior to a fellowship appointment. We do not sponsor H-1B visas.

Please submit your application by the end of July via the Electronic Residency Application Service. Please also include the following with your application:

  • A letter of recommendation from your residency training program director
  • Two or more additional letters of recommendation from clinical faculty and/or research mentors who know you and your work well
  • Statement of personal and career objectives
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination/Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination scores
  • Medical school dean’s letter and transcripts

We will notify those selected for September/October interviews by email/ERAS scheduler. Training begins the following July.

Per APCCMD, it has been strongly advised to continue to have all Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship interviews virtual. Therefore, RUSH University will comply with this recommendation and hold all fellowship interviews virtually, including those for local applicants.
