Endocrinology Diabetes and Metabolism Fellowship

The integrated endocrinology fellowship program of RUSH University Medical Center and John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County is a two-year program providing fellows with the highest-quality educational experience in endocrinology, diabetes management and metabolic disorders. Through a combination of clinical and research opportunities, fellows are well-prepared for the Endocrinology Board Examination and successful careers as clinical or academic endocrinologists.

Since the program’s inception in 2000, we have worked to continually design and refine an optimal training experience. We offer currently three fellowship positions each year for the two years of specialty training. You'll enjoy a wide range of patient care opportunities that build skills, competence and confidence, while also collaborating closely with accomplished specialists and mentors.

You'll spend time equally in inpatient and outpatient clinical rotations at RUSH University Medical Center and John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. You'll learn the most current endocrine disease and diabetes treatment strategies while gaining clinical experience in both private and public health care settings.

During the clinical rotations, you'll participate in monthly dynamic testing rotations, weekly ultrasound-guided FNAs, preparation of patients for inpatient and outpatient RAI therapy, combined pituitary clinics with neurosurgeons and inpatient rounds of the fracture liaison service. You will be assigned your own continuity clinic patients, providing ongoing patient care throughout the two-year program.

Guided by experienced mentors and faculty, you'll participate in a vast clinical and basic science research. The research emphasizes clinical and outcomes research studies in areas of diabetes, obesity, diabetes prevention, thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer as well as bone calcium disorders. Basic science and molecular biology research is available in thyroid hormone metabolism and action.
