Department of Neurological Sciences

The Department of Neurological Sciences consistently ranks among the top 20 programs in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report. Our medical students, residents and fellows are given the opportunity to work side by side our respected physician faculty and get exposed to a wide variety of neurological cases, including complex and rare presentations.

As a regional leader in neurological care with a state-of-the-art neurointensive care unit, our department has experienced consistent growth, discharging more neurology patients than any other Chicago-area hospital in fiscal year 2014. At the same time, our quality measures reflect the high level of care we provide. For instance, in the SWIFT-PRIME stroke trial, Rush University Medical Center had the fastest mechanical thrombectomy times of any participating site. Our Rush team was recognized for having the best team among a group of 203 sites.

Our faculty are actively involved in research that is advancing knowledge about how to diagnose and treat movement disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, neuromuscular disease, epilepsy and other neurological disorders. Numerous clinical trials and research studies are conducted here, and our faculty are widely published in prestigious medical journals, hold offices in national and international societies, and are regularly awarded major grants
