Historical Overview of the ProgramSince the early years in Rush's institutional history occupational therapy has maintained a presence. Archives indicate the Women's Board Auxiliary donated funds in 1916 to establish classes in occupation to be organized and managed by Susan Tracy, a well-known figure in occupational therapy history. The Occupational Therapy Department was established shortly thereafter, and was supported by the Women's Board Auxiliary until 1937, when the hospital assumed administrative responsibility for occupational therapy. Service has been provided to a wide variety of programs and clientele from that time to the present. For more on the history of OT at Rush, click on the "More" link below. |
