Effective fall 2012, Rush University will start its academic calendar earlier (for the College of Nursing and Rush Medical College) in the fall and will end its academic calendar earlier in Spring 2013. Some of these changes still affect the entire University and those planning around University events and schedules.
Current and prospective students should be aware that:
- Adjustments to tuition, fees and Center Court rent will be made to fit the new academic calendar.View tuition and fee information.
- The timing of financial aid disbursements will change based on the new academic calendar. Students will need to register as “at least half-time” to be considered for most types of student financial assistance.
Full- and half-time designations for Rush University students for 2012 - 13 are as follows:
o Rush Medical College students: all enrolled students are considered full-time
o Graduate students: full-time = 9+ credits; half-time = 4.5+ credits
o Undergraduate students: full-time = 12+ credits; half-time = 6+ credits
- Contact Financial Aid at (312) 942-6256 or Financial_Aid@Rush.edu for questions about financial aid disbursements.
- Student transcripts will reflect the change to the academic calendar and credit hour system. This change will be noted in the official transcript reference key located on the back of all official transcripts. For questions, contact the Office of the Registrar at Registrars_Office@Rush.edu or (312) 942-5681.
- In 2013, commencement will move from the second Saturday in June to the Thursday before Memorial Day (Thursday, May 23, 2013). Students who have questions about whether they are graduating or not should reference the “Policy on Eligibility to Participate in Commencement” on www.rushu.rush.edu and contact the Office of the Registrar with any further questions.
Faculty and staff should be aware that:
- If you are involved in planning or attending events that occur in relationship to the annual commencement ceremony (e.g., commencement banquets and brunches, alumni events and communications, etc.), you will need to re-evaluate their timing and plan accordingly.
- If you have academic affiliations with other schools or contracts (including independent contracts and letters of agreement), review them to see if any modifications need to be made.
- Dean’s office personnel should consider how the calendar change impacts graduation dates and diploma receipt (e.g., College of Health Sciences), as well as class schedules.
- If you are involved with other Rush support services and offices that organize events or schedules around student schedules in some way (e.g., environmental services, food and nutrition services, security, bookstore, library, employee health, etc.). For instance, security and environmental services will need to review schedule and possibly modify current shuttle schedules, security sweeps and locking of buildings, etc.
