Nadine Lerret, PhD, MLS(ASCP)^CM, received her doctorate in immunology from Rush, where she analyzed the role that CD8 T cells and dendritic cells played in a humanized mouse model of breast cancer. She went on to postdoctoral research endeavors at Northwestern University, specifically focusing on whether T cell intrinsic MyD88 signaling regulates the host immune response following kidney transplantation. While she is classically trained in basic science research, she also is a certified medical laboratory scientist. This combination drives her research interest in examining the interplay between T cells and dendritic cells in patients with metabolic disease and chronic hyperglycemia. Lerret’s long term research goals are to be part of an interdisciplinary research team focused on patients with pre-diabetes and methods that can be utilized in order to stop the progression to overt diabetes. Her primary teaching responsibilities are in the Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences, where she is the clinical chemistry course director.
