Ellen Becker, PhD, RRT, RRT-NPS, RPFT, AE-C, FAARC, is an emerita professor in the Department of Cardiopulmonary Sciences. Her dissertation addressed the use of distance learning for respiratory therapists interested in pursuing baccalaureate degrees after entry into the respiratory care profession. Later, she led research on numerous topics for respiratory therapists to advance their education after entering professional practice.

Becker expanded her research into patient education and addressing the best ways to educate both in community and health care settings. Additionally, she focused on pulmonary function quality control and the impact of using race/ethnicity to interpret the results of diagnostic testing.

In her new role as an emerita professor, she will continue to mentor junior faculty and students, supporting their professional growth and fostering a culture of excellence.
