Adolescent health, community health
Diane Smith, MSN, APRN, FNP-BC, is an instructor in the Community, Systems and Mental Health department at RUSH University College of Nursing. In addition to her academic role, Smith has also worked as a family nurse practitioner in several underserved areas (school base health centers, Indian health centers and board of health clinics). She has published several articles and served as the nurse practitioner on a grant with the primary focus on women of color who have chronic health conditions, where exercise was used to decrease the morbidity outcomes from those conditions.

Smith has focused on adolescent health care since the 1990s. In 2018, Smith received the Education MVP award, one of the highest awards for faculty at the College of Nursing. At the present time Smith is a member of the ANEW Grant that Rush has received. She is working on bringing telehealth education to nurse practitioner students.

Smith's academic teaching responsibilities have included health assessment, advanced diagnostics, pharmacology, the role of the nurse practitioner, public health nursing, doctoral/MSN final project work and clinical for family nurse practitioner students in the DNP specialty program. Smith has also served on many college and university committees, some of which she has chaired, and several regional Coalition School Base Health Center Committees.
