Jen'nea Sumo, PhD, RN, CNL, is dedicated to providing exceptional care to caregivers. She believes that pursuing purpose and feeling a sense of belonging are vital for the health and well-being of both parental caregivers and healthcare professionals. Therefore, her work is focused on supporting caregivers’ pursuit of purpose and building communities where these caregivers feel a sense of belonging, that they are valued, have support for their health and well-being, and access to needed resources. Within the college of nursing, Sumo leads an online community intended to empower tri-directional learning (teaching/learning amongst students, staff, and faculty), foster a sense of belonging, and promote health equity. She conducts research to support African American parental caregivers, and teaches in the prelicensure, DNP, and PhD programs.
