Andrew N. Garman, PsyD, is a professor and associate chair in the Department of Health Systems Management. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Garman teaches classes in organizational analysis and change, leadership and other topics in the master’s and PhD programs, and he conducts research on topics including health care leadership and U.S. trends in global health activities. In his practitioner role, he is the chief executive officer of the non-profit National Center for Healthcare Leadership, whose mission is to improve health by strengthening health care leadership. He is the author of several dozen peer-reviewed papers and book chapters, as well as four books, including The Future of Healthcare: Global Trends Worth Watching and Exceptional Leadership: 16 Critical Competencies for Healthcare Executives, which was recently released in its second edition. Garman received his PsyD in clinical psychology from the College of William & Mary, his MS in human resource development from the Illinois Institute of Technology and his BS in psychology with a mathematics concentration from Pennsylvania State University.
