Diane C. Sowa, MBA, RD, LDN is an assistant professor in the Department of Clinical Nutrition and director, dietetic internship at Rush University and associate director, clinical nutrition, food and nutrition services, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Ill. Diane received her undergraduate degree in dietetics at Dominican University, River Forest, Ill. She went on to complete a dietetic internship at John H. Stroger, Jr., Hospital of Cook County. She completed a Master's of Business Administration with a focus on human resource management at DePaul University, Chicago, Ill.
Diane has held multiple positions here at Rush, including cardiovascular, quality assurance dietitian and clinical nutrition manager. As director, dietetic internship and associate director, clinical nutrition, Diane has the unique opportunity to meld the didactic experiences with supervised practice. She has served as research advisor/committee member on numerous master's-prepared students' research projects involving the following topics: nutrition assessment in the inpatient setting, determining vitamins, herbals and functional food use of urban hospital patients, use of pre-albumin in monitoring nutrition status, comparing predictive equations in determining caloric needs for parenteral nutrition patients, and determining a predictive equation to determine tube feeding needs for stroke patients.
Diane has been active with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, serving six years on the House of Delegates, Association Position Paper Committee, Informatics Task Force and currently on the Simulation Task Force. She has also served on multiple committees on the state and local dietetics association.
