Research and Scholarship

We are fortunate to have Manya Gupta, MD coordinating our Residents as Scholars curriculum. She brings her outstanding teaching, research and mentorship skills to this position and helps our residents make sure their academic accomplishments are on track for their stated career interest. In addition to curriculum development, Dr. Gupta’s primary role is to facilitate and monitor our residents’ interaction with their specific scholarly activity mentors. The pursuit of scholarship is a core activity of our department and residency program and all residents are expected to engage in scholarly activity.

This curriculum begins in September of the intern year with a required retreat to introduce new residents to the basics of various categories of research. The retreat also includes faculty and resident panels discussing past and present projects. In addition to the didactic component of our program, research block electives during the second and third years of training are encouraged. Dr. Gupta also helps residents standardize and maintain their CV throughout residency to make sure they get credit for all of their hard work. The program has been highly successful in promoting academic skills in our graduates and preparing them for continued academic success when they move to the next phase of their career.

We also offer a Master's in Clinical Research to interested residents.
