The one-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited vascular neurology fellowship provides comprehensive training in stroke care in a technologically advanced training center. RUSH University Medical Center’s neurointensive care unit is a 28-bed state-of-the-art unit with its own dedicated embedded CT scanner. The 32-bed inpatient neurology floor includes the inpatient stroke unit and six full-time EEG-monitored beds. A neurosonology laboratory includes transcranial Doppler and carotid ultrasound capabilities.

Fellows will spend six months in the acute stroke service and two months in the neuroICU service. The remainder months are focused on electives in neurosonology, neuroradiology, stroke rehabilitation, neuroendovascular surgery, and research, among others.

Close collaboration between the cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery departments provides rich mentorship and patient care opportunities. Working in busy clinical inpatient environments, you’ll take an active role in performing acute stroke interventions including lytic therapy, endovascular therapies and clinical trials.

Fellows will also become expert in outpatient stroke management. The RUSH Stroke Program is a comprehensive stroke center certified by the Joint Commission that cares for more than 1,100 inpatients and 1,000 outpatients annually.

Graduating fellows will be eligible to sit for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology vascular neurology boards.
