Our Geriatric Medicine Fellowship is a one-year ACGME accredited program that participates in the NRMP Match utilizing ERAS as our application system. The fellowship consists of four fellows who are board eligible in Internal or Family Medicine and are also eligible for the American Board of Internal Medicine Subspecialty examination on Geriatric Medicine. During your year as a fellow you will develop clinical and educational excellence while working with the best physicians dedicated to caring for the elderly. U.S. News & World Report ranks RUSH University Medical Center’s geriatrics services 19th in the nation. Established in 1986, our fellowship is the oldest in Illinois.

In our program, you’ll work closely with faculty in a collegial, yet academically challenging environment. You’ll benefit from the vast array of resources RUSH offers, the distinguished RUSH Alzheimer’s Disease Center, the Center for Excellence in Aging, the FAIR (Functional Assessment and Individualized Recommendations) Clinic and the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Program, which trains fellows in symptom management, end-of-life decision-making and hospice care.

Training takes place in several settings, including RUSH University Medical Center, a top academic medical center proud of its core values of innovation, collaboration, accountability, respect and excellence (I CARE); RUSH Oak Park Hospital, an affiliated community hospital; and Warren Barr Pavilion, RUSH’s state-of-the-art rehab facility as well as patients homes in the RUSH at Home: Home Based Primary Care Program. As a busy referral center, RUSH attracts patients from many surrounding suburbs and states, offering you a highly diverse population from a variety of cultural, ethnic, racial, socioeconomic and religious backgrounds. You’ll be supported in research activities and encouraged to present abstracts and posters at American Geriatrics Society national meetings, among others.
