About Rush University

Thank you for your interest in the plastic and reconstructive surgery training program at Rush University Medical Center. The program is designed to provide each trainee with progressive responsibility and the fullest possible experience in all areas of Plastic Surgery, inclusive of all sub-specialties.

We are a full ACGME-accredited independent fellowship program. In 2011 we expanded our program to three years to allow our fellows to further explore individual interests, including various areas of basic science and clinical research.

The first and second years are dedicated to providing fundamental training in all aspects of plastic surgery, including hand surgery, aesthetic surgery, breast surgery, craniofacial surgery and microsurgery. Because of the volume of information that must be assimilated in such a short period, the traning program is built upon a foundation of anatomy training, didactic lectures, and operative experience designed to teach the conceptual basis of our specialty, rather than specific procedures.

During the final year of the program, the senior fellow is given increasing responsibility for coordinating and customizing the educational and clinical aspects of the program. The senior fellow is encouraged to present papers at various residents' and national meetings on approval of the program director.

The program design has been created in order to build a solid foundation for future academic or private practice, and to provide the basic skills necessary to successfully complete the board examination of the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

We are committed to training physicians in the art and science of plastic surgery through a comprehensive and well-rounded balance of structured education and clinical experience. We pride ourselves in developing highly competent, inquisitive and responsible plastic surgeons. This is an exciting time in our field and we welcome your enthusiasm.
