About Rush University

The surgical residency program at Rush University Medical Center participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) and adheres to the dates and deadlines set forth by the NRMP. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Hard copies of residency applications are not accepted. The deadline for submission is November 30th.

In order to be considered for an interview, your ERAS application must be complete with the following items:

  • Medical school transcripts
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Passing USMLE scores
  • Personal statement
  • Medical student performance evaluation (dean's letter)

Foreign medical graduates must be ECFMG-certified at the time of application submission. Our institution sponsors J-1 and H-1B Visas.

Due to the large number of applicants, the process of inviting candidates is highly selective. We interview potential candidates by invitation only. Those selected will receive an interview invitation via email. Interviews will take place throughout December and January. Please direct all questions and correspondence to
