Welcome to the Department of Diagnostic Radiology and Nuclear Medicine. Our Department is extremely proud of our Radiology Residency training program and our graduates. We combine the latest in technology advances along with the true basics of a radiologic education in a productive but warm teaching environment. Our trainees are exposed to extensive disease pathologies at a large urban tertiary medical center, and state-of-the-art imaging techniques provide a truly unique and complete educational experience.
The Diagnostic Radiology Department here at Rush University is one of the oldest in the Midwest and has a longstanding commitment to education having trained some of the nation's most prominent radiologists. We currently have 5 training positions per year for a total of 20 total residents which gives us one of the highest faculty to resident teaching ratios. Current residents regularly serve on local boards of the American College of Radiology and present research at local and national meetings, including the Chicago Radiological Society which meets at Rush. Our residents routinely acquire competitive fellowship training positions and post training job placements in both academic and private practice settings.
Throughout the four years of training in Diagnostic Radiology the residents are able to rotate through the various sections of the Department. The first training year is spent learning the core basic rotations. In the second year residents rotate at Children's Memorial Hospital for a focused three month pediatric rotation. Within the third year of training our residents travel to Washington, D.C. to attend a four-week course in correlative radiologic-pathology along with trainees from around the country, paid for by Rush. The fourth year of residency is a more focused training year with the residents acting more as fellows with increased electives, responsibilities and learning opportunities.
The Department has recently completed a move into the brand new Boler Center for Advanced Imaging in the Tower, one of the most advanced Radiology departments in the country. We have cutting edge technology with our exclusive partnership with Siemens, including the latest in 3T MRI scanners and dual-energy CT machines. As our volume and diagnostic capabilities continue to greatly expand, our commitment to resident education will also grow with new opportunities in research and clinical endeavors.
