Formal letters of appointment will be mailed to all incoming housestaff in the middle of May. They will need to be signed and returned to GME via mail no later than June 7th. Watch your mail and e-mails and keep us and your program coordinators informed of any address changes.
Your individual programs will be in touch with you regarding any programmatic orientation specific to your department. Some programs require house officers to be here prior to GME orientation; others afterwards. Keep in touch with your program coordinator for details. Please note: Housestaff must complete GME orientation prior to employment date.
Please also know that there will be several other activities which you will be required to finish prior to your GME orientation.
You will need to complete a 4-hour class on our newest EPIC software program (your Program Coordinator will register you and let you know when your class is); all compliance Healthcare Education System modules on LEAP-ON LINE; a program on "Teaching Medical Students" and, most likely, our GME-TODAY competency modules. E-mails will be sent to you with details and instructions for logging in and completing these before you arrive. While we are aware that these on-line activities may be time-intensive, it will help you to hit the ground running and be well-prepared for your first day here! Many of these are mandated by accrediting agencies and require mandatory compliance. I promise they will be worth the time and effort in that it will acclimate you and your colleagues to Rush expectations for all housestaff.
At orientation you will fill out an "Employment Eligibility Form." You must have with you two of the following original documents and a photocopy of each:
- U.S. Passport
