About Rush University
Mission Statement

By merging evidence from medical and social sciences, the Rush University Prevention Center is dedicated to reducing the burden of cardiometabolic conditions and foster healthier lives, thus lowering health care costs.

Health Care Opportunity

75-80% of cardiovascular events and type 2 diabetes are preventable. The Rush University Prevention Center is focused on prevention of heart disease (cardiovascular disease and heart failure) and diabetes (pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes) - which are complications of metabolic syndrome and other cardiometabolic risk factors.

The mainstay of primary and secondary prevention for both heart disease and diabetes is lifestyle modifications (stress, nutrition, physical activity and smoking) and self-management, typically associated with improvement in body weight, fitness and overall well being. The task of the Prevention Center is to consolidate treatment and prevention of the metabolic syndrome and its complications offering a medically supervised team-based cardiometabolic risk assessment and expert treatment incorporating stress management exercise, and nutrition.
