About Rush University

Rush Advantages

Because of our unique setting within an academic medical center, students receive outstanding practicum experiences with diverse patient populations that present a full range of communication problems. Department faculty are supplemented by the expertise of physicians, scientists and other professionals within the Medical Center. In addition to classroom and clinical activities, students participate in grand rounds, journal club and faculty/student development sessions. Students learn firsthand how to work effectively with other health care professionals. They are encouraged to participate in research activities and special projects that take place in CDS and other departments.

Teacher-Practitioner Model

The basis for our educational programs is the teacher-practitioner model, whereby students learn from faculty who take on dual roles as academicians and practitioners. Faculty members at Rush participate fully in the clinical process in addition to their teaching and research. This approach to professional education provides a seamless integration of learning occurring in the classroom and during clinical service delivery.
