Commencement—Thursday, May 23, 2013
All student participating in the ceremony will need to arrive at the UIC Pavilion Parking Garage (525 S. Racine) by 3 p.m., on the first level, west side. Faculty and staff will be there to help line up all students. Parking is available in surface lots 1A and 1B across the street from the Pavilion (on Harrison) for $10/car. There is ample parking.
If you choose to park at Rush University, there will be a shuttle service between the campus and the UIC Pavilion. Pick up will be at the SW corner of Harrison and Paulina streets. The shuttle before the ceremony will begin at 2:30 p.m. and will run until 4:15 p.m. The shuttle service back to Rush University will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run until 7:30 p.m. Pick up at the Pavilion will be at the NE corner of Racine and Harrison Streets.
Rush University Medical Center Security will be onsite for the event. They will have a check-in for purses/bags in the garage; however, we recommend that all students leave personal items with family or friends.
The ceremony will begin promptly at 4 p.m. and last approximately two hours. Doors to the Pavilion will open at 3:00 p.m. to allow family and friends to be seated in time. There are no tickets needed for this ceremony. All aisles leading to the seats consist of stairs. If your guests have special accommodation needs, the UIC staff will be of assistance right inside the main doors of the Pavilion.
All participating graduates will only receive a diploma cover when walking across the stage. After the ceremony all graduates will need to go to the garage to either pick up your diploma (Rush Medical College graduates only) or to turn in your diploma cover (College of Nursing, College of Health Sciences and The Graduate College). If you have not already received your diploma, you will receive your diploma shortly after completion of all degree requirements. Also, graduates with incomplete grades or financial obligations will not have a diploma given to them until those obligations are met.
The Rush University Commencement Committee has arranged for a professional photographer to take a color picture of each graduate as they cross the stage and a posed picture after exiting the stage. Proofs will be sent to your permanent address with information regarding ordering of prints. Family and friends will not be allowed in the aisles on the main floor during the ceremony. Family pictures may be taken immediately after the ceremony.
Gowns and hoods are to be returned to the first level, west side of the Pavilion Parking Garage after the ceremony. If you wish to purchase your own attire, please contact the Herff Jones rep at (312) 316-1876 or email@example.com

If you are not planning to participate in the Commencement activities and have not contacted the Office of the Registrar, please do so as soon as possible.
