About Rush University
Because fundraising is important to many student organizations, the following policies and procedures have been created. Please read the following information carefully.

One popular money-making effort is a raffle that requires participants to buy a ticket or pay an entry fee for the chance to win a prize. According to the Illinois Raffles Act, raffles are only legal if accompanied by an appropriate license. Because student organizations do not qualify for such a license, raffles organized by student organizations are considered illegal and may not be conducted.

Auctions (silent or live)
All student organizations must register and get approval for any auctions, live or silent. Students must register their auction with the Office of Student Affairs at least three weeks prior to the event. The student organization advisor must be present for all fundraising events.

Events at Bars or Pubs
If your organization is planning a bar night for fundraising, social, academic or professional purposes, please adhere to the following policies when planning your event:
  • Student organizations may not hold events where a flat attendance fee is charged in exchange for an unlimited number of alcoholic drinks. A flat fee can be charged for the exchange of other services such as food, non-alcoholic drinks, or a specific activity or event. A cash bar, if provided by the establishment, is permitted.

  • Students may receive percentages of purchases for non-alcoholic beverages and food. Organizations may not, however, receive a percentage of purchases from alcoholic drinks from a bar bill.

  • The student organization advisor must be present for all fundraising events.

T-Shirt Policy
The following process should be implemented by organizations ordering t-shirts:
  • Before choosing a vendor, students should get quotes from at least two vendors. One of these vendors must include the Rush University Bookstore.

  • All final t-shirt designs must be submitted and approved by the director or assistant director for student affairs prior to printing. Please allow for up to five days for review.

Bake Sales
Due to Illinois Department of Health regulations and Rush University Cafeteria competition, student organizations may not conduct bake sales of any kind.
