Gait Laboratory
External passive reflective markers are placed in standard sites on the lower extremity so that the hip, knee and ankle motion can be determined from the three-dimensional coordinates of the markers. The markers provide reference points for locating the internal joint centers about which the external joint movements are calculated. This core facility has been used in many industry and NIH sponsored clinical trials. The facility also provides information for planning surgical interventions and non-surgical treatments for patients with osteoarthritis.
