About Rush University
The Office of Research Compliance (ORC) is under the direction of Stephanie C. Guzik, MBA, BSN, RN, CHRC. The ORC functions within the corporate compliance department and partners with Research Affairs on many initiatives. The office promotes a culture of compliance, research integrity, and high quality research within the Rush community. Oversight of the regulatory, ethical and compliance aspects of all research conducted at RUMC is a complex, multidimensional undertaking, and the ORC divides the responsibility for managing these dimensions across operational areas. Although collaboration and consultation among the areas is a daily occurrence, each operational area has primary responsibility to ensure compliance within the institution. The areas identified for evaluation of compliance with conducting research include, but are not limited to:
  • Human research protection regulations
  • Financial conflicts of interest (FCOI) in research
  • Clinical trial billing
  • Scientific misconduct
  • Financial management associated with funded research
The ORC oversight of compliance is accomplished through policy review, education and training, directed “for-cause” audits and routine EQuIP (Education and Quality Improvement Program) quality assurance reviews and financial audits.

The ORC strives to assist the research community in navigating the complex regulatory matrix in its research endeavors.  The ORC experienced team members are available for consultation.
