Student Health and
Safety Requirements
The College of Nursing requires all nursing
students to have current proof of health and safety requirements
on file in the college throughout their enrollment. You will be
registering for classes prior to the start of the term, so it
is important that you complete the required forms according to
the deadlines set for beginning and continuing students. No nursing
student may register for nursing courses if there is a deficiency
in any of these requirements.
I. Student Health and Immunization History
In compliance with College of Nursing policy, all prelicensure
and Master
of Science in Nursing (MSN) nursing students are required to submit
a completed Student Health and Immunization form.
You must return the completed form along with all laboratory reports
to the College of Nursing before you will be allowed to enroll
for your first quarter. DNP and
PhD* students use the immunization form from the Office
of the Registrar.
* PhD students may be required to complete the CON immunization
requirements depending on
the nature of their clinical research topic.
II. CPR Certification
The College of Nursing requires all prelicensure
and MSN
nursing students to maintain on an annual basis
current basic CPR Provider Recognition. PhD students
may be required to complete the CPR
certification depending
on the nature of their clinical research topic.
All new prelicensure students will attend CPR class as part of orientation. This is an annual requirement.
RN-BSN, ADN-MSN and BSN-prepared
graduate students may provide proof of certification in
CPR from an employer. This is an annual requirement. The Medical
Center requires YEARLY CERTIFICATION even though
the American Heart Association gives a two-year renewal date.
The College can help with scheduling CPR if you require assistance.
III. Occupational Requirements
Students must be physically and mentally capable of carrying
out assignments that lead to attainment of course objectives.
You are required to complete and sign the Rush University
College of Nursing Occupational Requirements form that
is provided in your acceptance admission packet.
IV. Health and Safety Mandatory Training
The College of Nursing requires all nursing
students complete annual
online training for various
health and safety requirements.
All new prelicensure students will complete this requirement as
part of orientation.
RN-BSN, ADN-MSN and BSN-prepared
graduate students may bring proof of yearly completion
of this requirement from their employer.
V. Nursing License
All RN-BSN, ADN - MSN and BSN-prepared
graduate students are required to submit a copy of their
current RN license to the College of Nursing. Students not licensed
in Illinois must show proof of active licensure in a U.S. state
or territory. When you renew your license, please remember to
submit a copy of the renewed license. For all licensed RNs, you
must notify the College of Nursing IMMEDIATELY if there is any
change in your license status while you are enrolled.
A non-reported change in status may result in disciplinary action
or dismissal.
It is your responsibility to insure that the College of Nursing receives all required forms. Students will not be permitted to register until they have been submitted and a late registration fee will be assessed. Additionally, clinical placements will be delayed if health and safety records are not updated during time of enrollment in the College.
We have enclosed a CHECK LIST to help you compile your health and safety records. Test results should be documented by the health provider on the health form NOT ON THE CHECK LIST. Please return the CHECK LIST with your records so that we may refer to it when we check for completion of requirements.
Please contact the Office
of the Dean, at (312) 942-7117, if you have any questions regarding
these requirements.
